It was almost three years ago that I met an amazing woman named Carol Anne Shaw. She was in the process of publishing her first book, “Hannah & the Spindle Whorl”, and she chose Bucknucks Books to be the location of the launch. We were honoured! Her enthusiasm was boundless, and the scope of the launch was inspiring to me personally.
After a few conversations with this remarkable author, I decided that I just had to read her book. This was a big decision for me. Men in my demographic typically do not read youth novels with girl protagonists. It's just that Carol was so engaging in person that I was curious what kinds of characters she would leave on the page.
I read the book in a short period of time and I was surprised at how much enjoyment I received from it. I loved the characters, and the setting, and the mood of the entire novel. It was a vivid and endearing book that I believed was pretty special. I even wrote a book review for it: http://www.bucknucks.com/?q=content/book-review-hannah-and-spindle-whorl, which was published in the Valley Voice.
I wrote all of this pre-amble because I want you to believe me when I tell you that I am EXCITED to announce that "Hannah & the Salish Sea" (Carol's second book) is being launched right here at Bucknucks Books this coming weekend. On Sunday Mar 3 at 2:30pm we will have the author on hand to launch the book. There will be prizes, and a real life author, and best of all there will be a new book to read when it is all over.
